Real estate agents must obtain a license from the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC). FREC requires all applicants be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or a GED and that they complete and pass a course approved by FREC. Once you complete the course and pass the end of course exam, you can take the state exam to receive your license. A minimum score of 75% is required to pass the state exam.
When you pass the state exam, you may activate your license at the exam site by turning in a completed form RE11. The broker of the firm where you will be placing your license must sign the RE11. When selecting a firm to place your license, we strongly encourage you to select a REALTOR® member firm. A REALTOR® is an agent who, in addition to meeting state requirements, has chosen to become a member of the National Association of REALTORS®. By joining this organization, REALTORS® agree to follow a strict code of ethics. Consumers who hire REALTORS® can be sure they will be treated fairly and professionally. REALTORS® are the only agents allowed to use the “R” logo. The logo serves as a seal of approval and helps the public identify professional REALTORS®.
The REALTORS® of Punta Gorda-Port Charlotte-North Port-DeSoto Inc.® offers our members Ethics and Professional Standards instruction in order to maintain the exceptionally high standards of excellence in business required by the membership. Members are also offered numerous programs, products and service that enhance their professionalism. They also have access to a legal hotline through the Florida Realtors®. Free of charge to all members, this service ensures our members are getting the most current legal information available.
In addition to the Code of Ethics and the continuing education offered to Association members, we also have a regional multiple listing service (Stellar MLS) that allows you to offer your clients the best possible exposure whether they want to buy or sell property.
With diligence, the proper education and thorough training, you can look forward to building a successful career as a REALTOR®.
